Getting started
8bit.page is a browser-based pixel art workspace for drawing, animation, export, publishing, and sharing.
Make a Project
- Open the editor.
- Choose File > New project or press Cmd/Ctrl+N.
- Name the Project and choose Fixed or Expandable.
- Set its width and height, or choose a preset.
- Choose Start creating.
A new Project starts as a 32 × 32 fixed canvas with one transparent layer and one frame. Standard custom dimensions go up to 1024 px. The advanced size option raises the maximum to 2048 px.

On a narrow screen, use the mobile dock to open Tools, Colour, Frames, and Layers.
Choose a canvas mode
Fixed canvas
Choose Fixed for sprites, icons, tiles, bounded illustrations, and animation. It supports frames, resizing, cropping, transforms, layer merging, and the broadest export range.
Expandable canvas Beta
Choose Expandable for a static map, mural, or scene whose final size is not known. Add one section from the + control at any canvas edge. Drawing at an edge does not expand it automatically.
A fixed Project can be converted through Image > Make canvas expandable. Converting an animation creates a separate static Project from the selected frame. There is no expandable-to-fixed conversion in the current editor.
How saving works
- Local Projects keeps editable work in this browser.
- 8bit Cloud syncs opted-in Projects to your account.
- Save editable .8bit downloads the complete Project, including layers, frames, palette, tags, and Stamp presets.
- Export downloads finished Artwork in your chosen format.
- Publish uploads rendered Artwork and creates an Artwork page.
Accounts are optional
You can use the editor and save local Projects without signing in. An account identifies published Artwork and account-owned activity, and lets you opt individual Projects into Cloud sync. Signing in alone does not upload existing Projects.
